MOTOR VEHICLE REPAIR PROBLEMS

The Wisconsin Administrative Code regulates motor vehicle repair.  The Code provides certain requirements a repair shop must meet including:

  a shop cannot perform any repair not authorized by the customer.

  the shop should prepare a written and dated repair order and provide a copy to the customer.

  the shop must provide the customer an estimated completion date.

  the shop must obtain the customer's authorization for any additional repairs.

  if the customer requests before the repair, the shop must return all components, parts, or accessories replaced during a repair visit.

  the shop shall prepare an invoice covering every repair made by the shop and provide a complete an accurate copy of the repair invoice to the customer before returning the vehicle to the customer.

  A shop shall keep records of repairs for at least two years, including repair orders and invoices, records identifying repair personnel, and invoices for parts, components and accessories purchased by the shop.
